“I don’t believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive.”
~Joseph Campbell
Many (most?) people strive endlessly to fathom the “meaning” of life through introspection, exploration of religions and belief systems, joining others’ philosophies who seem to “get it”, etc. And yet most never seem to find the answers they seek. My observation is that the people most at peace and truly satisfied and happy with their lives are those that focus less on meaning and more on fully experiencing their daily lives. Those other activities have value, of course, but they don’t satisfy our human needs unless we open ourselves up to truly experiencing all aspects of our lives – even the most mundane. Open yourself to experience your life!
You explain the quote very well. What if the “meaning” to life is for each of us to fully experience it! We experience as individuals, but each of us can benefit from the sharing of those experiences with others.
Hi Steve – Yes, we often experience life more fully when we do so with others. Some moments are best in isolation, while others are empty without sharing.
I Love This Quote! it is very true! Life is short and it is a journey, an experience we all get only one time! While wasting time and worrying not to find the “meaning” of it, why don’t we sit back & relax, and enjoy every moment we live & experience.
Happy Friday!
Thanks for your comment Michelle! Yes, every moment is worthy of reflection if not always enjoyment. Live life!
