“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
~Joy J. Golliver
Regular JAMmer, CJ, sent me this quote along with the video link below to the 2012 Wellesley High School commencement speech. Her thoughts resonated with me, and I share them now with you:
I am compelled to share this with you, also because I found lot of controversy in the press around this speech.
For some reason, the speech for me is very inspiring and more of an optimistic challenge. In a way, the professor is urging us to be passionate learners with ambitious, creative and agile mindsets. As the world is changing, so must our ongoing learning mechanism.
There couldn’t have been a better time for me to listen to this speech since my MBA program is nearing its end and I am gearing up to return to my work life. “Today is just a beginning….it’s where I go from here that matters.”
Speech excerpts: “Dream big. Work hard. Think for yourself. Love everything you love, everyone you love, with all your might. And do so, please, with a sense of urgency, for every tick of the clock subtracts from fewer and fewer….You’re not special, because everyone is…Make for yourselves, please for your sake and ours, extraordinary lives.”
I, deeply, wish this for you.
Reblogged this on and commented:
This is Awesome! You know why? Because I was just thinking to post
Hey, its me again. Just to say, express what I think of your story above about discovering one’s gifts and sharing them is so true. What makes us so different is how well one can pull this off. Most people are so involved in what needs to be done, we forget what is important. I don’t want this to be me. What about you?
Yes – I agree. It is too easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of life. However, with intention we can have the strength to fight this tendency and be sure to reflect, learn, have gratitude, and give back. A bit every day… We are doing so via this conversation – helping each other.
